More about the project

What’s it about?

What is it really like to build a career, become a parent, and return to work? And how do our experiences through these milestones shape what comes next for each of us..?

What’s it really about?

Parents sharing complex unique personal experiences in their own words; creating space to hold many variations of this story; over time, surfacing patterns that might appear across the many stories; and asking questions that are bigger than any one individual experience.

What it isn’t

It is not therapy, advice or formal academic research.

The aim is not to offer conclusions or solutions, but to hold space for complexity and the many real-life variations within this familiar story. Over time, it’s the combined strength of many different stories side by side that begin to surface insights grounded in lived experience and eventually build a resource for parents that is filled with concrete, lived experiences.

Why a podcast?

The expert on each version of the story is the parent themselves. And parents are busy people. Podcasts fit in around daily demands and are equally a great opt-in medium for intimate, sensitive conversations about topics that really matter to us. The production method (a recorded 1:1 conversation) facilitates confidentiality when needed and a respectful, quiet, environment to share our experiences fully.

More about the producer:

Alice brings experience across balancing working and caring contexts; broadcast media production experience, both in front of and behind the mic; and a curiosity to explore the questions that seemed bigger than any one story following her own experience of this journey.

How can I get involved?

If you’re not quite ready for that, there are still plenty of ways you can help shape the conversation…

If you’ve already heard the series then I’d love to know your thoughts on it and where we go next. Let me know via the contact form.

And just sharing this with one or two parents you think might appreciate knowing what the project is all about will make a huge difference.

Thank you!
